Designed by John B. Parkin and Associates and completed in 1983, 483 Bay Street is a 1,073,000 square foot building consisting of two towers of 10 and 15 storeys each. 483 Bay Street was the first building in Toronto to receive a LEED certification in the 'Existing Buildings' category. It achieved a Gold Rating, with citations for highly efficient cooling, heating, lighting, and carbon footprint reduction. The building's two towers are connected by an eight-story glass Atrium and ensure maximum exposure to natural light. Several plants, trees, a fountain and reflecting pool present a relaxing interior atmosphere. The North-East exits lead to an enchanting parkette, with Historical Church, fountains, and the Toronto Public Labyrinth. During the summer months, the building's exterior landscaping is bright, colourful and well maintained. Trees, planted by the building, line both Bay and Albert Streets.Security camera surveillance is located around the entire perimeter of the building and it includes all exits and walkways; thus promoting safety for occupants and pedestrians. The lower level connects through a PATH access to the Toronto Eaton Centre, the PATH system, the Atrium on Bay, and the Toronto Transit subway system Queen Street Station. As a participant in the PATH system, Toronto's downtown walkway; tenants are linked to ten kilometres of underground shopping, restaurants and subway stations. Downtown destinations may be reached easily in weatherproof comfort. Nearby Nathan Phillips Square is always bustling with activity, from the Cavalcade of Lights in the winter, to the Jazz Festival in the summer. Local amenities within a one block radius include a Walk-in Clinic, Optometrist, Dental office and pharmacy all with may be reached through use of the PATH system. Childcare services are available at both City Hall just opposite BTS on Bay Street and across Trinity Park, at the Holy Trinity Church. On-site catering services and food preparation services are easily accessible both within the building and through the PATH connection to the Eaton Centre's food court and dine-in restaurants.
